Businesses with employees in Illinois should be aware that recent amendments to the Illinois Human Rights Act, the Illinois Business Corporation Act and the Illinois Equal Pay Act impose new obligations with respect to the use of criminal background checks in making employment decisions, equal pay reporting obligations and obtaining equal pay registration certificates.

Client Alert: NYC Dining & Event Curfews Extended
Governor Cuomo has announced that starting Monday, April 19, 2021, restaurants may operate for on-premises dining until 12:00 a.m., instead of requiring restaurants to close for on-premises dining at 11:00 p.m. All customers will be required to be out of the restaurant’s indoor and outdoor dining spaces at 12:00 a.m., though takeout and delivery may continue past 12:00 a.m.

Client Alert: New Jersey Says Employers Can Mandate COVID-19 Vaccination
In line with the EEOC’s previously-issued guidance regarding mandatory vaccination, New Jersey has issued guidance affirming that, with limited exceptions, employers may require their employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine prior to returning to in-person work.

Under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (“FFCRA”), private employers with 500 or less employees (“Covered Employers”) were required to provide paid leave to employees who were unable to work or telework due to certain COVID-19 related reasons (“FFCRA Leave”) between April 1 and December 31, 2020.

Client Alert: New COBRA Subsidy Requirements
As part of the recently enacted American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, an assistance eligible individual (“AEI”) who incurs a COBRA qualifying event because of an involuntary termination of employment or reduction in hours will be eligible for a 100% subsidy for their COBRA costs.
